Web design is the skill of creating presentation of content that are delivered to an end- user though the World Wide Web. Web design can present by using a Web browser or other enabled software. There are many elements that can create a successful web sites such as online portfolio, including Entrance, portfolio, about and navigation. From the project, I had learned the rules of using typography and colour on screen, the more advanced areas of animation, moving type and navigation.
Today with the advance of new media, the classical rules of using paper as multimedia are no longer valid. By using the internet, user can find the information more quickly and easy. A web designer should create a web site which conform user will not lost in the jungle of information. Besides, a web designer should provide user with a rapid overview of the information to hand.
This means that a web designer should design a screen that able to establish easy understanding information, with a clear layout and organization. Thus, visual and functional continuity in the organization of screen design, graphic design, and typography are important when it comes to convincing the recipient that the content is useful.
From this project, I had learned that many of the rules from typesetting and the principles of page layout in printing are not suitable in screen design. For example, the orientation and navigation is different and the font size of the screen should be larger. I also learned to use new software, Adobe Dreamweaver. I had known that different hardware and software arrangement affect the appearance of the screen.
For a Design Week website, it is different from other site. This web site is creating to help user getting more information about the design festival.
I used two symbols to depict the first web page of Kuching Design Week 2011; the pattern of Sarawak and the modern style of lines, demonstrating the combination of culture and future.
I use to avoid the user hart to see the important information at the first moment and have to search where to click to get the stuff they want. I try to make the site interesting to view and interesting to interact with.
First, I have a brain storming and sketch the ideas. I also prepare a story board so that I can easy to understand the story line of the web page easy. Site map is important to let a designer easy to consider when a site to another site.
On the header, I put the logo of the Kuching Design Festival as the site theme. The theme is consistent in every web page.
I have use the same basic scroll navigation system as in this project Kuching Design Week. The white colour background is simple. First, I scanned my drawing sketches and illustrated it in Adobe Photoshop. Using Adobe Photoshop, I can adjust and crop the size of the picture.
Next, I arrange the navigation “home, about us, the festival, news, partners and sponsor, contact us” texts are placed on top of the header, making sure that they are spaced on the right column. Then I fill in the text with a cool colour. As each button is clicked, the navigation will change to a cool colour. Once a section was chosen, selection will take the visitor to the specific web page.
In the project which given, I had meet the challenge in insert the navigation in the table. I insert the table to the navigation used, but the column of the table can’t delete or hidden. It appears in white colour line and affects the vision of the screen. Finally I try to create the colour of the background at navigation and content and success solving the problem.
